The wildfire danger for the Peace River Forest Area has been raised to high.

Alberta Wildfire says that due to the recent thundershowers, lightning and strong winds, there were eight new wildfire starts in the area last night.

Firefighters were able to get to them quickly and three of them have been extinguished, two are under control and three are being held. They are all under half a hectare in size and firefighters are working to extinguish them.

So far this season, there have been 47 wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area, all but 5 of which have been extinguished.

While there is still no fire advisory in place, Alberta Wildfire continues to remind everyone to be diligent. This means when operating an off-highway vehicle to use caution, clear your hot spots, and carry a collapsible bucket and shovel. It also means ensuring campfires are out: soak it, stir it, and soak it again.
