The wildfire danger in the Peace River Forest area has now been raised to high.

Alberta Wildfire is warning that “High temperatures are helping to dry out the forest vegetation and scattered thundershowers are expected to pass through the area this afternoon/evening, increasing the chance of lightning-caused fires and strong, gusty winds.”

Firefighters are monitoring the area for new starts. They remind Albertans to call 310-FIRE to report wildfires.

While there is still no fire advisory in place, Alberta Wildfire continues to remind everyone to be diligent. This means when operating an off-highway vehicle to use caution, clear your hot spots, and carry a collapsible bucket and shovel. It also means ensuring campfires are out: soak it, stir it, and soak it again.

So far this season, there have been 35 wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area, all of which have been extinguished.
