At its August 4 meeting, Jasper Municipal Council made face coverings, or face masks, compulsory on most municipal sidewalks downtown, and in all outdoor public places where a two metre distance cannot be maintained.

A new Temporary Compulsory Face Covering Bylaw also requires individuals to wear face coverings in all indoor public places, which includes privately owned businesses and facilities accessible to the general public.

“Face coverings are recognized by medical professionals as an effective way to limit the spread of COVID-19. We are thrilled to see regional visitors come to Jasper to holiday, and we must ensure that the health and safety of our residents and visitors remains our number one priority” says Jasper Mayor, Richard Ireland.

“Visitors planning to come to Jasper this summer and fall should bring their own masks and wear them in public places, indoors and outdoors”.

Face coverings must fully cover the nose, mouth and chin. Exceptions apply in indoor public places, specifically for persons separated from others by physical barriers or shields (plexiglass); children under the age of two; persons with medical conditions; and persons who are eating or drinking at assigned seating within the indoor public space.
