On Feb. 27 around 5:10 am, Dawson Creek RCMP officers were on patrol in town when they noticed a vehicle driving in a suspicious manner.

Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over which resulted in it taking off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was not initiated, however officers established containment of the area.

About five minutes later, officers located the vehicle parked in a residential neighborhood. Also nearby, walking away from the vehicle, officers identified two suspects with whom they were familiar from previous interactions. As officers approached the suspects, one of them was observed to toss a satchel into the snow.

The suspects were arrested for Flight from Police. A search of the discarded satchel located a quantity of drugs; suspected to be fentanyl. The drugs were packaged in a manner indicative of trafficking leading to both suspects also being arrested for Possession and Trafficking of Fentanyl.

A search of the involved vehicle located a loaded SKS rifle which had been modified making it a prohibited weapon. Also located was a 20-gauge shotgun on which it was observed attempts had been made to destroy the serial number.

Both suspects have been held in custody and face charges not just relating to their initial flight from police, but also multiple drug possession and trafficking charges, multiple firearms offenses, as well as breach charges relating to previous court-imposed conditions.
