Beaverlodge local Chris Schmidt has been promoted to head coach of the Storm for the 2024-2025 season, following three years as assistant coach.

Schmidt, who also directs hockey at the Grande Prairie Public School Division Academy, has an extensive hockey background, including playing U15AAA in Grande Prairie and four years with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL. He was drafted by the LA Kings in 1994 and had a successful 17-year professional career, including playing for the Kings and representing Canada internationally.

Brandon Wells, a Spirit River native and former AAA player in Grande Prairie, returns as assistant coach, while Storm alum Jordan McTaggart becomes the team's athletic therapist and strength coach.

All three coaches have deep connections to the local hockey system. The Storm's first game of the season is on August 25th at Bonnetts Energy Centre. For more information, visit www.gpstorm.ca.
