Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Grande Prairie and Area is excited about a new event they have planned, called the Big Little Amazing Race.

With COVID-19 challenges this year, they haven’t been able to do any other fundraisers, but this new event will be able to keep all Alberta Health guidelines.

The Big Little Amazing Race is happening Oct. 18, with the sponsorship of Hunt Group Private Wealth with IG Wealth management.

Anyone in the community who is interested can sign up their vehicle for $100, so as many seatbelts are in the car is how many can participate per vehicle. They’ll have a number of stops with challenges set up throughout the city. There’s room for 100 vehicles and they’ll be sent out in heats of 10. The event will be commentated by one of the program’s Littles.

First place for winning is a $3000 gift card to co-op, second place is $1000 for Prairie Mall and third is $500 for Keddie’s Tack and Western Wear. There will also be other prizes given in each heat.

Tickets are available at Eventbrite. For more information on Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie and Area, check out their website or Facebook page

Big Brothers Big Sisters has been around in Grande Prairie for almost 50 years. Originally, it was just Big Brothers, but Sisters were added in 1994.

They match volunteers that are interested in working youth and sometimes at-risk youth with a little person, or “Littles”, as they call them. The big brothers and sisters they call “Bigs”. Bigs and Littles are matched up according to their interests and personalities, making sure it’s a good match so they belong and can last a long time.
