Joy quickly turned to shock and disbelief for Calgary Flames fans Thursday, August 20, as the Flames squandered an early 3-0 lead over Dallas only to watch helplessly as the Stars pumped in seven straight goals for a 7-3 win, knocking the Flames out of the playoffs.

Andrew Mangiapane, Johnny Gaudreau and Rasmus Andersson had the Flames up 3-0 before the Stars even had a shot on goal.

But credit the Stars for not folding up the tent, they started the comeback with a goal late in the first period, then opened the floodgates in the second with five more and capped the night with one more in the third.

Denis Gurianov had four of those goals, as the Stars win the series in six games and move onto round two, while the Flames once again are headed home early, scratching their heads, and wondering what went wrong.

One other series came to an end Thursday night as the New York Islanders shut-out the Washington Capitals 4-0 to win that series in five games.

Friday, August 21, the Montreal Canadiens will look to even up their series against Philadelphia and force a game seven as they trail the Flyers three games to two.

And in Edmonton, the Vancouver Canucks can move on with a win over the St. Louis Blues as they're up 3-2 in that series.
