The Grande Prairie Storm will be kicking off the 2020-21 season this Friday (Nov. 13) against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.

They’ll play the Pontiacs in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday at home at Revolutions Place, then head to Spruce Grove next weekend to play the Saints.

The AHJL approved the regular season on Oct. 29 for the Nov. 13 start date. The season will run until Jan. 8.

The Storm will play a 34-game regular season with all games, except for one, being played on the weekends. They will play the Pontiacs, Spruce Grove Saints, Lloydminster Bobcats, Sherwood Park Crusaders and Fort McMurray Oil Barons twice at home and twice away and six games, three at home and three away, against their nearest rivals the Whitecourt Wolverines and Drayton Valley Thunder.

Due to the limit of 100 seats for fans at games because of COVID-19, the Storm are unable to accommodate their more than 300 season ticket holders. They’ve made the decision this year to refund season tickets.

As Chris Millsap, Vice President of the Grande Prairie Storm says, “We simply cannot have a situation where, due to capacity restrictions, some season ticket holders that have paid to watch us are not allowed in the building.”

Players parents, billets and season ticket holders will be placed in a priority group for purchasing half the tickets available. The other 50 will be offered to the general public in a variety of ways. Tickets will still be sold at the Revolution Place box office.

With limited seating, the team is focusing on getting games online for fans to watch. They’ll have highlight packages and "Storm In 10" videos on Facebook and Twitter. There are also working on getting games aired on local cable TV.

Millsap says, “It is our hope that the restrictions on indoor gatherings will soon be lifted and we can once again play in front of an arena full of Storm fans. Until that time, we thank you for your understanding, patience and support.”
