A few Grande Prairie-grown players were selected by teams in this week’s NHL draft.  

One of these is Ethan Edwards, an 18-year-old defenseman born in Grande Prairie. He was picked in the 4th round of the draft, 120th overall by the New Jersey Devils.

Most recently, Edwards was playing for the Spruce Grove Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). He played 50 games with 33 points scored. This year he’ll be playing for the University of Michigan. 

The first Albertan netminder selected in the draft was 18-year-old, Grande Prairie-born Garin Bjorklund. He's a Grande Prairie minor hockey alumnus, playing for the Storm U15 AAA in the 2015-16 season.

He's coming off the 2019-20 season playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the Medicine Hat Tigers. Last season he had a .897 save percentage and 2.91 Goals Against Average. 

Bjorklund was picked in the 6th round, 179th overall by the Washington Capitals.
