Alberta Health Services (AHS) reported today that there have been outbreaks found in two units at the Misericordia Community Hospital (MCH) in Edmonton.

There is a total of 8 positive patient cases linked to the MCH outbreaks and 2 positive healthcare workers. The number of health care workers who are in currently in isolation is 29.

AHS says that contract tracing continues, and the situation is being closely monitored. Enhanced screening measures among patients and unit healthcare workers have been implemented, and the hospital has increased infection prevention and control measures on the units to further ensure the continued safety of all patients and healthcare workers.

They are also reporting that they’ve tested all patients on the affected units, as well as all staff who have either worked on or have been present on those units even if they are not showing symptoms.

Visitation to these units will be temporarily restricted for the health and safety of patients and staff, and families are encouraged to meet with their loved ones virtually.

The MCH emergency department remains open and there is no impact to all other services at the MCH at this time.
