On March 2 around 9:45 a.m., Dawson Creek RCMP were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision involving two semi-trucks on Highway 97N near 239 Road.

Officers attended, along with paramedics and firefighters, to render aid to the involved drivers. One of the drivers (male, 30) sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. The other involved driver (male, 49) required extrication from the vehicle and received serious, life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the quick action of attending first responders, it is anticipated that both drivers will survive.

The resulting investigation determined environmental conditions to be primary factors in the collision. Road conditions were icy and slippery and strong cross winds were all identified to be contributing factors.

Charges are not anticipated.
