On Monday Apr. 27 at 7:52 PM, Dawson Creek RCMP received a report of a missing man, 72 years of age, with severe dementia. The male had reportedly driven off in a vehicle earlier and had not returned. Dawson Creek RCMP conducted extensive patrols throughout the night.

At 10:30 AM the same day, the vehicle was located, abandoned, in the rural Farmington area. Over the next 24hrs an extensive search was conducted in the back country area with assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services, RCMP Air Services, North Peace Search and Rescue and South Peace Search and Rescue.

At approximately 10:42 AM on Wednesday Apr. 29th, the man was located by Search and Rescue teams. At the time he was found he had fallen and become wedged under a log and could not move. The man was transported out of the bush area to a waiting ambulance and is currently recovering in hospital with minimum injuries.

"The work done by the Search and Rescue teams; all of whom volunteered their time and commit hundreds of hours of training each year preparing for emergencies such as these, undoubtedly saved this man said S/Sgt Damon P Werrell, NCO I/c Dawson Creek Detachment. "Were it not for them he would likely not have survived."
