The Grande Prairie Council for Lifelong Learning is marking its 35th anniversary in 2019.

Special events over the year will include a Celebration of Success event on June 14th at the Montrose Cultural Centre, and a Community Consultation event in October.

“We’re excited to recognize this milestone year,” says David Olinger, Board Chair. “The Council is a hub for adult learning in the community and we continue to work to address changing needs as Grande Prairie grows. It’s heartening to see our students advance through participation in our programming to reach their goals.”

The Council for Lifelong Learning began in 1984. In the past year, the Council has served 215 learners. It is governed by a 12-member board, and has 13 staff.

“We are excited to have achieved charitable status this year,” says Executive Director Darrell Wiens. “This will allow us to generate funds to augment programming and reduce fees for students.”

The Council is one of 130 Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) organizations across Alberta established to provide adults with opportunities for lifelong learning.

Programs include GED Exam Prep, English Language courses, Basic Computer Skills, Family Literacy, Volunteer Tutoring, Financial Literacy, Employment Essential Skills, and Life Skills for Persons with Developmental Disabilities. The Council has a unique learning environment that serves Canadians and newcomers. For more information, check out www.gpcll.com
