The provinical government held a phone town hall meeting on Tuesday (March 24) to talk to faith leaders in our province regarding the COVID-19 outbreak.

The province knows that religious practices and faith communities are a source of strength and comfort for their members, particularly at this time. It is critical that faith communities support their members through this time in a safe way.  Premier Kenney asked faith communites to help ensure resilience of our society when so many people are isolated and alone. He also mentioned there will be a greater need than ever for pastoral and spirtual support of people during this time.  Kenney also expressed his gratitude towards public health officals. "We should all be grateful for the tremendous professionalism and innovation of our public health officals in Alberta."

Many topics were discussed during the meeeting, including if somone tests positive, summer camps and keeping buildings open.

Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr Deena Hinshaw was also present and also reminded those in attendance about the importance of following the 50 person rule. For gatherings with less than 50 people, good hygiene and social distancing practices must be used. She also encourages the church community to consider other avenues to connect including exploring live-streaming events.

"Religious leaders are essential role models in Alberta, filling a key and valued position. Please take care of yourselves and your faith community through these difficult times"
