The Alberta Winter Games will be happening in the Grande Prairie area February 16 - 19, 2024 and organizers are already busy with event preparations.

Games Manager, Lisa Kerkhof says, “Facilities in the City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, and MD of Greenview will all be used to host different sports. The whole region is included, and we can’t be more excited.”

Athletes will be coming from all over Alberta. The province is divided into 8 different zones, and each zone will send representatives for each of the different sport disciplines.

Outdoors, spectators will get to watch a variety of skiing as well as snowboarding and biathlon. Kerkhof says indoor sports will include figure skating, speed skating, hockey, ringette, artistic swimming, judo, fencing, archery, curling, gymnastics, volleyball, badminton, and wrestling.

Athletes, coaches, and spectators will be coming from all over the province, and with an event this large the need for volunteers is huge!

Kerkhof says, “Volunteers will be a big thing. We're starting that recruitment process now. We will be looking for a pool of about 1500 people that will be able to volunteer for the week leading up to, and then the weekend of the games itself.”

Another important part of the 2024 Alberta Winter Games is Sponsorship. They are asking for local people, local business owners, and anybody that has connections within the community to reach out if they are able to financially sponsor the games in any sort of capacity.
