The wildfire danger for the Slave Lake Forest Area has been raised from high to very high.

Alberta Wildfire reports at the showers that moved through the area yesterday were scattered and the amount of rain was light. Winds are expected today of 30 to 60 km per hour, which provides conditions for a wildfire to spread quickly.

Areas around and south of Lesser Slave Lake have a very high wildfire danger, while areas around Wabasca and Red Earth Creek are high.

Yesterday evening, firefighters extinguished a small wildfire in the area.

Firefighters urge everyone to use caution and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE or #FIRE on your cell phone. Fire lookouts are watching for smoke and firefighters in helicopters and airtankers are ready to respond to any new wildfires that may start.

A fire advisory is in effect for the area.
