May 20 marks the one-year anniversary of the evacuation of the Town of High Level due to the Chuckegg Creek Wildfire.

To mark the occasion, a new exhibit highlighting the events of the fire last spring is now on display at the Mackenzie Crossroads Museum and Visitor Centre.

The exhibit was intended to be the centerpiece for a town-wide celebration on the anniversary of the evacuation. However, due to social distancing protocols in place arising from efforts to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum is currently closed to the public and town-wide celebration has been cancelled.

In an effort to bring the exhibit to local residents, they have moved the experience online. Please join Mayor Crystal McAteer as she walks through the main exhibit and talks about the events that took place last year during the Chuckegg Creek Wildfire and the defence of High Level.

Mayor McAteer is joined by local residents who were there when it was happening. Hear what happened to them in their own words, and revisit some of the moments from an event that drew them all together in a united effort to save their town.
