A total of $149,802 in grant funding was awarded to eleven community organizations to support the transportation needs of seniors and individuals with special needs in the County.

The 2019 Senior and Special Needs Transportation Grants were approved by County Council during Monday’s meeting.

“Council recognizes and values the important work that these organizations play in enhancing the lives of our residents,” said Reeve Leanne Beaupre. “These transportation grants offer seniors and residents with special needs the ability to access resources that support their independence and enhance their quality of life.”

Council approved transporation grants to the following groups:

  • Disabled Transportation Society of Grande Prairie - $100,000
  • Grande Spirit Foundation - $15,000
  • Hythe & District Pioneer Homes - $11,902
  • Twilight Club of LaGlace - $5,300 • Town of Beaverlodge - $4,900
  • Beaverlodge Senior Citizens Association - $2,700 • Beaverlodge Hidden Potential Society - $2,500
  • The Silver & Gold Pioneer Club of Wembley - $2,500 • Sexsmith Sunset Homes & Tenant Association - $2,000 • Amisk Court Social Club - $1,500
  • Grande Prairie & District Golden Age Centre - $1,500

“Access to transportation connects our residents to medical serivces, shopping andsocial and recreational opportunities,” said Coree Ladwig, FCSS Seniors and Adult Program Team Lead. “We know that connected communities are healthier communities.”
