Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is reminding people that there is still time to file their 2020 taxes by April 30.

The CRA says in a release, “If you have delayed filing your income tax and benefit return due to the COVID-19 situation or otherwise, the CRA wants you to know that we are here to help you navigate your unique tax situation. If you owe taxes this year, maybe for the first time, we will help you find solutions that do not create undue stress.”

There is a step-by-step guide available online to help people fill out their return.

The CRA says filing on time is important because it helps ensure your entitled benefit and credit payments, such as the Canada child benefit, the GST/HST credit, COVID-19 recovery benefits and any related provincial or territorial benefits, are not interrupted. They say even if you owe money, not to risk having benefits interrupted by not filing.

Those who file on paper are encouraged to file before April 30, as it can take 10 to 12 weeks for the CRA to process paper returns.
