The wife of well-known and controversial televangelist Jim Bakker says he is recovering after suffering a stroke.

Bakker's wife, Lori, says in an online post Friday morning that Bakker recently suffered a stroke which she blames on long hours and "vigorous warfare that we have experienced in the last several weeks."

The warfare she refers to is a recent lawsuit brought forth against Bakker and his ministry for a product he promoted on his show which a guest claimed could cure COVID-19.

At the time the suit was filed the Missouri Attorney General's Office wrote that Bakker and Morningside Church Productions violated Missouri law by "falsely promising to consumers that Silver Solution can cure, eliminate, kill, or deactivate coronavirus and/or boost elderly consumers' immune system and keep them healthy when there is, in fact, no vaccine, pill, potion, or other product available to treat or cure coronavirus disease 2019."

Bakker's legal time has recently moved to have the lawsuit dismissed, citing religious freedom.

"In Jim’s words, this has been the most vicious attack that he has ever experienced," Lori writes.

"We are thankful that Jim is okay, and that he is now at home with our family. Under the guidance of medical professionals and our Board of Directors, Jim will be taking a sabbatical from the show. Jim will be back! He is still dreaming and hearing from the Lord, and he already has a powerful word to deliver when he returns to the air."

Lori writes that The Jim Bakker Show will continue to air without Bakker for the time being.

She asks for prayer for the preacher and their family. "As Jim always says, God loves you, He really does! And so do we!"
