Recreation preferences and priorities for residents across the region have been identified through the Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee’s (GPRRC) recent survey. Over 700 households provided feedback early this year.

Highlights from the survey results include:

  • 97% of households confirmed that recreation is important to their quality of life.
  • 94% of households agreed that recreation brings the community together.
  • 81% of households agreed that residents benefit from recreation even if they do not use recreation services directly.
  • 97% of households think that municipalities in the region should work together to provide recreational opportunities
  • 78% of households are either very or somewhat satisfied with recreation opportunities offered in the region.
  • The main reasons why households participate in recreational activities are to be healthy, to relax and be with family and friends.

The survey was completed in June 2020 to better understand the recreation needs of residents in the Grande Prairie area and to gauge residents’ preferences, satisfaction, and usage of current and future recreation amenities and services.

Feedback received from the survey will allow the GPRRC to identify changes since the initial survey (completed in 2015), and to identify recreation trends or opportunities in the region to plan for the future. The GPRRC has been working to enhance recreation based on feedback from the initial survey, including addressing topics that remain top of mind in the recent survey results like conv enient and consistent booking experiences for facilities.
