The Salvation Army in Grande Prairie is looking for donations for its most important fundraiser of the year.

This year’s Kettle Campaign kicks off Friday, November 12th.

Captain Peter Kim is hoping that the community will come together and show their support this year.

“This is our big push for the year, and we’re hoping that people will help us and support us by volunteering at the kettles.”

In 2020 during the pandemic, the Salvation Army served 3,975 hampers (119,385 lbs. of food).  6588 Individuals in Grande Prairie were supported in our community with 2914 (44%) of them being children. 1,361 new households accessed the Food Bank for the first time.

The Salvation Army’s community kitchen in partnership with the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre served 27,740 meals in 2020. The Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) mobile food truck served 4,743 meals to flood victims and first responders; as well as 687 meals to local people in our community.

The Salvation Army has also helped 5 households out of poverty through their Pathway of Hope aimed at stopping intergenerational poverty. They hope that more families will no longer need the food bank as they journey together to help others set goals of hope and achieve them.

The 2021 Christmas Kettle/Mailer/Online Campaign goal is $575,000. The Salvation Army hopes that the community will help reach their goal this year as the need continues to increase.

Kettles will be at various locations with a touch free TIP TAP option where you can TAP to Donate. Donations can be given online at salvationarmygp.ca and mailed in or dropped off at 9615 – 102 Street, (P.O. Box 907) Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2T8. You can even TEXT GPHOPE to 30333 to donate.

The Salvation Army’s major fundraiser is during the Christmas season and this ensures that they can provide services to families in need in the community throughout the year.
