Alberta's COVID hospitalizations have now surpassed 1,000, though some positive statistics can be gleaned from the latest numbers.

Hospitalizations are the highest they've been since the beginning of the pandemic, with 1,040 total, 230 of which are in intensive care.

Of those being treated for COVID in hospital, 779 are unvaccinated, and 203 of the ICU patients are unvaccinated.

Individuals are only categorized for partial or complete vaccination 14 days after their first or second dose as it's not considered protective until then.

Another 20 deaths were reported, bringing the total to 2,594.

Though 1,336 new cases were reported, the number of active cases actually decreased by over 600, with 20,304 total.

Vaccine uptake remains strong, with 10,170 doses administered in the last 24 hours.

With that, first doses among those age 12 and up are at 81.8 per cent, and 73 per cent of eligible Albertans are now fully vaccinated.

Here's a breakdown of the active case count in the area:

City of Grande Prairie: 492 cases

County of Grande Prairie: 221 cases
