A petition has received over 2.2 million signatures to remove The First Temptation of Jesus Christ from Netflix.

The series has received negative feedback from Christians across the globe. The First Temptation of Jesus Christ portrays Jesus bringing His boyfriend home to meet his parents Joseph and Mary. Christians are calling it "blasphemous" and are calling for its removal.

The country with the strongest critics is the predominantly-Catholic Brazil where the comedy troop, Porta dos Fundos, is from. The Portuguese-language special was released for their audience, but it was not well-received by viewers. This is not the first special of its kind that the troop produced for Netflix.

Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of Brazillian president Jair Bolsonaro, calls for its removal by making an appeal over Twitter. "We are in favor of freedom of expression, but is it worth attacking the faith of 86% of the population?" Bolsonaro says in his tweet.

Last years special was entitled The Last Hangover and centred on the disciples waking up hungover, looking for Jesus. The Last Hangover won a 2019 Emmy in the International Comedy category.  Both The First Temptation of Jesus Christ and The Last Hangover are available for Canadian Netflix users.
