On Dec. 5 around 11:00 a.m., Fairview RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Jewellery Box and Giftware in Fairview. 

The male suspect entered the store brandishing what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and was not located. The store clerks did not sustain any physical injuries as a result of the incident. 

The investigation into the armed robbery led to the arrest of an adult male on Dec. 7. 

Chance Banner, 23, of Fairview has been charged with: 

  • Two counts of robbery with a firearm  
  • Two counts of assault with a weapon  
  • Two counts of pointing a firearm  
  • Possess weapon dangerous to public peace 
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm 
  • Two counts of fail to comply with conditions 

Following a judicial hearing Banner did not speak to bail and is scheduled to appear in Fairview Provincial Court on Dec. 9. 

“This occurrence was solved quickly thanks to information provided by the general public” says Corporal Sebastien Fleury, Fairview RCMP. “Community engagement and public collaboration with the RCMP goes a long way towards keeping our community safe and the RCMP appreciates that.” 

As this matter is now before the courts, no further details will be provided.
