In the Dec. 8 update, Alberta reported 1,727 new cases of COVID-19 from 19,109 tests. 

There are now 20,388 active cases in the province. Of these, 654 people are in the hospital with 112 people in intensive care. This is 45 more hospitalizations than the previous day, and four more ICU admissions. 

Nine more Albertans have died, for a total of 640 since the start of the pandemic.  

There are now 51,000 recovered cases. 

In the North Zone, 31 people are in the hospital and four other these are in intensive care, an increase of two hospitalizations and one fewer ICU admission.  

In Grande Prairie, 15 new cases of COVID-19 were added, plus five recoveries. The City is now at 106 active cases with 451 recoveries. In the County of Grande Prairie, two new cases were added, and one person recovered. 

An outbreak has been declared at Rotary House in Grande Prairie, which has 15 active cases connected to it.  

Peace Region totals: 

In Tuesday’s update, the province also announced stricter public health measures that will be in place for at least four weeks. Two start right away, which are a ban on indoor and outdoor social gatherings and a mask mandate in all indoor public spaces. 

Other restrictions will begin Dec. 13, including reducing occupancy of worship services and retail, work from home and some business closures. More details are available HERE
