According to the latest Economic Development report from the City of Grande Prairie, new housing starts are down in the region.  

“The City saw 4 single-family and 2 multi-family housing starts in June, compared to 20 single-family and 6 multi-family starts for the same period in 2019. Overall, housing starts within the city this year are down 67%. 

“The region as a whole saw 42 single-family starts and 18 multi-family housing starts in the second quarter of 2020, compared to 87 single-family and 104 multi-family starts in Q2 2019. Overall, starts within the region are down 68.6%.” 

New construction in the City is also down. In June, 75 worth over $8 million were issued. This is down 35% in permit volume and 22% in construction value from June 2019. For the year, permit volume is down 30%, and construction value is down 51%.
