Law enforcement officers from agencies across Alberta and around the world have joined together to support Special Olympics Alberta with the first ever Virtual Summer Series. Like other charities, there has been a lapse in funding. Event Lead Matt Burton says a few of the officers from the province came together and came up with the virutal summer series and already money is coming in.

"We set our fundraing goal for this 3 month event at $50,000. Currently to date we are just shy of $2,000 and we haven't started yet."

This event offers the opportunity to raise funds in a safe and social way. Registration is now open for the Virtual Summer Series, a brand-new Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run event, running from June 15 to September 15.

This three-part series has a 30-day suggested time frame for each leg, namely bike from June 15-July 15, run from July 15-August 15, and walk from August 15-September 15. Participants can register for 1, 2 or 3 legs of the event, and can set individual distance goals based on ability levels. Each leg of the series is only $15 to register. Those that complete all three legs will receive a 2020 Virtual Summer Series medal. The series wraps up on September 15.

Though it's a series-style event, you can choose to register for 1, 2, or all 3 of the event legs. As an organization that promotes inclusion, you are also able to choose the distance goals that suit your fitness and abilities, which will help motivate you during each 30 day period.

This event is open to the public and anyone from across the world are invited to participate – participants from the USA and Scotland have already joined in this Summer Series fun.

They encourage everyone to get involved, get active, and get connected. Additional information and registration is available here: www.specialolympics.ca/albertatorchrun/vss
