On Aug. 22 around 11: 30 a.m., Hinton RCMP were dispatched to an "SOS" call in the Cadomin area near Whitehorse Creek.

Further investigation determined that a horse had fallen onto a 26-year-old female from Edmonton and she required an evacuation to emergency medical assistance.

Hinton RCMP, along with Alberta Conservation and emergency medical services attended the remote location. A member of the public on horseback who volunteered was instrumental in assisting to locate the injured female. The female was carried by emergency personnel for approximately 1.5 km’s and then transported to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The horse of the rider was not injured and has been safely returned.

“This successful rescue effort is an example of a high level of cooperation between various emergency departments and a member of the public on horseback that resulted in a positive outcome for this injured horseback rider,” says S/Sgt. Chris Murphy, Detachment Commander of Hinton RCMP.
