As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on around the globe, have you ever wondered how hospitals and healthcare were formed?

Christians played a huge role in this area, becoming some of the first people to help the sick and needy.

Today we're joined by Michael Austin. He is the spokesperson for Christian History Magazine.

They recently released an issue called Healthcare and Hospitals, in the mission of the church. In there they discuss how from its earliest days, the Christian church carried out active ministries of philanthropy and care for the sick.

The issue examines how a core Christian belief, that humans are made in the image of God, inspired the notion of healthcare and founded the institution known as the hospital. These two ideas help define the modern world where solutions are sought and care is provided in contrast to a pre-Christian era in which the sick were cast out and the dead were left to rot unattended, causing increased suffering and death.

Today on Connections Michael will share with us the history of hospitals and healthcare and the role of the church and it's people.
