A Christian student in Nigeria was visiting home when he was killed by Fulani militants earlier this month.

Christians continue to endure militant attacks in Nigeria, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Sebastine Stephen died at the hands of Islamic militants on April 16, 2020. The group also kidnapped two villagers, CBN News reports.

Residents from the area say Stephen, who was visiting his home after his school closed over coronavirus concerns, was shot and killed by armed militants.

Jack Nweke and his wife, the two residents abducted by the group, were also Christians.

Hosea Yusef, who lives in Kaduna where the incident occurred, says Stephen raised an alarm to warn their community about the impending attack.

"The herdsmen instantly shot him and then proceeded to enter one of the houses close to them, where they kidnapped a couple," says Yousef.

Last week, Pastor Stephen Akpor was killed while praying for five couples at a cathedral in southern Nigeria.

A senior church leader, Isaiah George, says the pastor was shot several times and then killed by stabbing.

Nigeria is currently ranked as the 12th-worst country for persecution of Christians in the world, according to Open Doors USA's 2020 World Watch List.

In 2019, almost 1,000 Christians were murdered.
