Now, more than ever, bringing awareness and supports to those who have post-traumatic stress disorder is essential. Even though Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatments work, most people who have PTSD don't get the help they need.

In support of those living with PTSD and to help them have access to the resources and support groups they require, the Greenview Regional Fire-Rescue Services department has designed a custom "Help Fight PTSD T-shirt" to build awareness and raise funds.

These exclusive t-shirts will be available during the month of June for $20.00 each.  All profits from the sale of these t-shirts will go directly to The Heroes Project, a Grande Prairie organization that supports PTSD awareness and intervention. T-Shirts are $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for a child-size.

"Proceeds from this campaign will increase awareness of PTSD and the mental stress that First Responders are faced with," stated Clarence Wesloski of The Heroes Project. “If we lose one person to PTSD or mental illness, it’s one too many. These funds will help support programs like OSI-Can Alberta, which offers peer support groups for those suffering from Operational Stress Injuries and PTSD.”

During PTSD Awareness Month and throughout the entire year, help raise awareness about the many different PTSD treatment options available. You can make a difference in the lives of first responders, military veterans, frontline health workers, and any others who have experienced trauma. Anyone can experience PTSD, but everyone can help.

"The importance of PTSD awareness and intervention at this time can not be overemphasized. You do not need to be a soldier or a first responder to be exposed to situations that can cause PTSD," says Regional Fire Chief Wayne Brown. "As the current COVID-19 pandemic ebbs and flows, PTSD numbers for our frontline workers are increasing, they are on the front lines every day, and it's taking its toll.  Our first responders are affected as well, with COVID adding an additional stressor when responding."
