The Grande Prairie Composite High School officially opened Tuesday morning to an audience of around 1350 students, teachers, dignitaries, and other members of the public.  

The opening blessing and land acknowledgement by Elder Darlene Cardinal started off the program, followed by the school band playing ‘O Canada’ and speeches from MLA for Grande Prairie-Wapiti, Travis Toews, Joan Nellis, Board Chair from the GP Public School Division, Mayor Jackie Clayton, Faizal Jiwani, President of Aman Builders, Sandy McDonald, Superintendent GPPSD and student council.

At just over 16,595 square metres the new Grande Prairie Composite High School is the single largest high school north of Edmonton. The facility features a gym equivalent to four regular school gyms, courtyard with nature-based seating areas, a totem pole and a living wall for students and staff to enjoy.

The new school recently opened its doors for up to 1,600 grade 9-12 students.
