This past weekend the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) held their annual award show.

Tenille Townes, originally from Grande Prairie, won three awards this year of six nominations.

For the second year in the row, she took home Female Artist of the Year. In addition, she won Songwriter of the Year, along with Tina Parol and Gordie Sampson for her song “Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)”. She also won Video of the Year for “Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)”.

Her other nominations were TD Entertainer of the Year Award, Fans’ Choice Award and Interactive Artist or Group of the Year.

When asked about how she felt by ET Canada, Townes said, “I feel so honoured to be part of this Canadian country music family, so thrilled to get to be celebrating all of this this year. Even through the distance, I’m so thankful the show’s still happening, way to go CCMA’s.”

Townes was grateful the awards were able to happen during COVID-19.

“What a brilliant streak of just joy and feeling a part of the committee of music, I think that’s been the most special thing. It is a really weird time to celebrate, there’s a lot of heaviness in the world right now, and I think now more than ever I’m grateful for the music and the way it can lift up our spirits and I know that watching these shows and seeing everybody’s performances and even just feeling the love through the distances has certainly lifted my spirits.”

Townes also had a couple of performances on the weekend. Along with Meghan Patrick, Meghan Patrick and Carolyn Dawn Johnson, she performed “Lost Together” out of Nashville. She also performed “Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)”.
