The completion of 11 new schools across the province creates state-of-the-art learning spaces for more than 7,100 Alberta students.

This summer, Alberta’s Capital Plan invested over $276.5 million into building 11 schools located in Brooks, Calgary, Cochrane, Edmonton, Grande Prairie and Legal. This investment helped get more than 1,500 Albertans back to work in jobs related to school planning, design, and construction.

The construction on these schools was completed between June and August of 2022, meaning they are opening for the 2022-2023 school year.

“I am pleased to celebrate École Catholique Louis Riel completed in time for the start of school this fall. Our community and the residents in O'Brien Lake are fortunate to have more capacity for the growing demand in our young city of Grande Prairie. I am pleased to be part of a government continuing to deliver and prioritize funding to ensure our youth all across Alberta receive a high-quality education. I am excited for my community of Grande Prairie and want to wish the staff and students of École Catholique Louis Riel a wonderful year of learning as they become the first to enjoy this brand-new facility.”
