Grande Prairie Regional College is working on becoming the northern centre of excellence in post-secondary education. As part of this, they’ll be making innovative changes to their libraries and support services on both campuses to a comprehensive Learning Commons model.

Once complete, the Learning Commons will provide a centralized and collaborative space, offering services and resources to aid in the success of learning, teaching and conducting research at GPRC.

“The Learning Commons will enrich the overall experience at GPRC,” said Dr. Kieren Bailey Librarian and Library Chair at GPRC. “Students and faculty will be presented new opportunities and technologies for research, collaboration and utilization. It will play an important and transformative role with fresh and innovative visions for individual education as we prepare our students for their futures.”

All library services as well as academic coaching, testing accommodation, research support, technology assistance, accessibility services and tutor supports will be provided within this new cohesive model.

The Learning Commons model will be implemented in stages. Immediate changes include the modernization of services and resources, while changes to the physical learning spaces on the Grande Prairie and Fairview campuses will happen over time.
