Results of the 2020 Citizen Satisfaction Survey were presented earlier this week.

The survey was conducted by Forum Research over the phone and online from January 13 to 31. A sample size of 401 individuals, selected based on Statistics Canada census data to ensure demographic representation of Grande Prairie’s population, was used to produce statistically valid results.

General quality of life in the City is rated highly with 9 in 10 respondents indicating that quality of life in the City is good.

Services are generally seen as being well-run, with some services receiving almost universally positive response, such as the fire department, followed by: parks, playgrounds and trails; recreational facilities; and arts, cultural facilities, and programs. The survey results also demonstrated a marked increase in satisfaction regarding overall customer service satisfaction, indicating the improvement efforts undertaken by the City are having a high degree of success.

The most important issues facing the City are reflected as being crime rate, homelessness, and roads. Similarly, key target areas presented by the report as being potential areas of improvement for the City are: roads and infrastructure; snow and ice removal; and local policing. These key areas are deemed as drivers of overall satisfaction for residents and are areas of opportunity for increasing satisfaction whether through increased outreach and education or operational enhancements.

Overall, there is a growing desire from residents to receive additional information from the City regarding fiscal and budget issues, as well as further opportunity to provide input to the City for the purpose of influencing decision making.
