Since acquiring 5 Mile Community Hall and the surrounding lands east of Grande Prairie, the County is looking for feedback on developing the future school site.

From September 9 – 12, the County will be hosting a workshop at the hall where an expert design team will consult with community stakeholder groups on the ideal design for the future site. The result of the intensive four-day process will be a blueprint for the site design that captures the collective feedback.

“Our goal is to develop a site plan for the area that best meets everyone’s needs,” said Director of Planning and Development Nick Lapp. “With the existing community hall, Peace Wapiti School Division’s need for more school facilities and the opportunity to include recreation facilities for clubs and the community, there are a lot of factors to consider.”

This style of workshop, also known as a design charette, is a method to draft innovative, effective and functional plans in an efficient timeline.

Over the four days, stakeholder groups will discuss their vision and ideas for the site, the design team will use the feedback to develop a few concepts, which the stakeholder groups will provide feedback on. The result will be a plan for the site that reflects the community’s needs.

The public is welcome and encouraged to stop by 5 Mile Community Hall on September 10 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to see the charette design process in action.
