The County is continuing to work on ensuring all residents have access to recreational opportunities through their Recreation Fee Assistance Program.

Eligible families and individuals can apply to receive punch passes to access local recreation facilities, which include the Crosslink County Sportsplex, Eastlink Centre or the Beaverlodge Pool and Recreational Centre. The program, which began in 2018, helps break down the financial barriers low-income families may face when accessing local recreation facilities.

In response to feedback received from last year’s program, the County increased the qualifying income thresholds by 30 per cent. The County’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) work with residents to apply to the program and to provide successful applicants with passes that meet their needs.

“Recreation is something that all people have a right to access, regardless of income,” says Lisa Watson, Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Child, Youth, Family and Community Team Lead. “The program has the potential to support many residents, especially with the increased income levels so we encourage people to reach out, learn more and to apply.”
