The rapid onset of warmer temperatures has led to pooling water across roads and driveways throughout the County of Grande Prairie.

Motorists are advised to travel with caution. In areas where water is flowing across the roadway, drivers are advised to manually check the depth before deciding whether to cross slowly. Flowing water can lead to washing away of road material, ruts or washouts on roadways.

The public is encouraged to report flooded areas that require the County’s immediate attention, washouts or other damage to Public Works by contacting the 24-hour Emergency Line at 780-532-7393.

County crews and equipment are working at full capacity to address problem areas as they are identified, including steaming culverts and clearing storm drains to reduce water buildup. It can take up to 24-hours for pooled water to drain after working is finished in an area.

The County is also reminding residents with children that ditches and culverts are not safe for play, especially during spring melt.
