Construction has begun on the newest Grande Prairie & District Catholic School on the O’Brien Lake West School site.

“We are excited that the school (O’Brien Lake West) has started construction. This school represents a fantastic opportunity for local families and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Superintendent of Schools, Karl Germann.

Germann says they are planning to communicate directly with O’Brien Lake families and keep them in the loop about the status of the construction. Updates will be on social media and any questions can be sent to communications@gpcsd.ca or asked by calling 780-532-3013.

Germann says that the school has an innovative floor plan that isn’t anywhere else in Alberta.

“The design incorporates the architectural innovation built into the Norma Rose Point school in Vancouver, BC which is adjacent to the University of British Columbia campus. The design incorporates six individual Learning Neighborhoods, creating a strong sense of community while supporting practical, innovative learning in a faith-based environment.”

“The design of the facility incorporates our own experience in the Alberta High School www.gpcsd.ca 780.532.3013 9902-101 Street Grande Prairie, AB T8V 2P4 www.gpcsd.ca Redesign project, a philosophy incorporated into St. Joseph Catholic High School and Faculté St. John Paul II Catholic School. The philosophy creates a culture of academic excellence and opportunity for all students whether they choose to enter the workforce or transition to post-secondary.”

The English Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9 school is expected to open no later than August 2022.
