Church members are thanking God for sparing all 18 of their students after a series of extreme weather in the south.

The Hope Baptist Church and School in Lousiana is asking for prayers after their building was levelled by a tornado. Students were in class when they received a weather warning and evacuated mere moments before the potentially-fatal devastation.

"God spared us from any lives being lost and for that, we are extremely thankful," the Hope Baptist Church says in a Facebook post.

The community is banding together to help the church worship together again. Services are being held at neighbouring churches while local banks collect donations. Plans to remove debris are currently being made by parishioners eager to worship in their home church again.

"We know the One who created the storm, we know the One who calmed it. We will choose to keep trusting in Him. He makes no mistakes. With His help, we will recover," the church says.

Thank you for every single prayer, phone call, text, meal, and to everyone who showed up at the church or pastor’s house...
