City Council has approved Cedar Point as the official name of the Coordinated Care Campus facility.

The name was chosen as cedar has ensured the survival of people for thousands of years and has become a powerful symbol of strength and revitalization. The deep respect for cedar is rich in tradition, and continues to be culturally, spiritually, and economically important, especially in Indigenous practices. The City believes this is a strong reflection of the facility, and the ways in which it is supporting people’s journeys from experiencing homelessness to stable housing within a recovery-oriented approach. The name Cedar Point also reflects the multi-use purpose of the facility to house municipal offices and the potential for further expansion.

Background

Cedar Point is a facility designed to address homelessness in the community, with service provision currently provided by The Mustard Seed. Onsite health and nursing services are continuing with Northreach Society as the service provider. Together, this dynamic partnership forms an integral part of the coordinated system of care and housing continuum. Housing with supports provides on-site wrap-around services and recovery systems of care programming, assisting residents in building independence and sustaining housing. Cedar Point represents a much needed option in the community by helping residents achieve recovery and wellness goals, reducing the volume of homelessness and related issues in the city, and creating a safer, vibrant community for all residents. The local need for housing with supports is based on the Grande Prairie Five Year Plan to End Homelessness (2015-2019), Affordable Housing Action Plan (2021-2022), and Homelessness Strategy (2021-2023).
