The Grande Prairie Storm has launched a new fundraising initiative called the Legacy Sponsor Program.

It’s an opportunity for fans, families, and businesses to sponsor the organization, and it’s recognized with an individual sign which will be placed on one of the stairs in the arena.

GP Storm Business Manager, Ryan Carter says, like most nonprofits, COVID has really affected the organization, and this is one way that people can show their support to the Storm, as well as all areas of sport in Grande Prairie.

“The players are mentors for many kids in the area, so it is a great cause and supports a lot of people besides just the storm players, but also the outreach of the organization.”

The program gives people the option of two levels of sponsorship.

Carter says, “One is very affordable for families that maybe have young kids in minor hockey and aren't going to be in the arena five or seven years from now. It’s what we call our legacy or legacy sign, which is 3 years for $350.00, and it’s a metal sign that goes on the stair riser. Then we have a lifetime one which is a permanent sign for $1000, and that one will stay there as long as the arena is standing.”

As a former Storm player, Carter’s family has already purchased theirs, and is putting out the challenge for others to do the same.

The signs will be on display year-round for concerts, curling events, and any other event that’s held in the arena.
