The City of Grande Prairie is excited to announce the annual Eastlink Centre Triathlon is back, with a new date of July 10, 2022.

The triathlon has been an Eastlink Centre tradition since 2017, creating a valued sporting opportunity in the community for athletes of all ages and fitness levels. With the provincial COVID-19 regulations now lifted, the event is pleased to return this year as part of the 10-year anniversary celebration.

The triathlon is sanctioned by Triathlon Alberta and all participants must have a Triathlon Alberta membership to participate in this event.

To celebrate the Eastlink Centre 10-year anniversary, and the return of the triathlon, this year the Triathlon Alberta day membership is included with the registration price.

Registration is available at www.cityofgp.com/triathlon until July 3. Early bird pricing is in effect now until May 31.

All participants will receive special commemorative swag and a carb load dinner sponsored by Red Rock.

The Eastlink Centre is also providing triathlon training prior to the event in two different programs, one for ages 16 and older and one for youth aged 8 to 10. See triathlon training programs at www.cityofgp.com/programs.

Triathlon Route

The triathlon route begins with swimming in the Olympic pool at the Eastlink Centre, participants will then ride their bikes from Knowledge Way down 68 Avenue and loop around at Poplar Drive to make their way back to the Eastlink Centre. Racers will then run through the trail system and finish on the north end of Knowledge Way.

For the safety of participants and commuters, 68 Avenue will be closed from Poplar Drive to Knowledge Way from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the triathlon. Please be aware that the closure could be extended depending on the number of racers.

Commuters are thanked for their patience and understanding during this closure.

Volunteer Opportunities

The City is currently seeking 100 volunteers to support a variety of event day duties at the triathlon. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and start the day with a free breakfast.
