Police Chief Dwayne Lakusta says “It's really a very milestone moment for the development of the Grande Prairie Police Service as we present to the public our police vehicles as well as our uniform. We've taken a lot of steps in the last seven months. I've got a remarkable team that's really stepping up and really achieving a lot of goals there in short order that I'm very proud of.”

For the time being the new Cruisers will only be used for training and recruitment purposes.

Police Chief Lakusta says, “We have to remember that the RCMP will remain the primary police jurisdiction for now. They're gonna be responding to all the calls for service for the foreseeable future. But you will see our vehicles out on the road for the most part for training and transporting our members around, and you’ll also see them in the downtown core here sooner than later."

The new police vehicles are fully operational and can respond in emergency fashion, however, they won’t typically be out on patrol until the full transition has taken place.

The Grande Prairie Police Service is expected to take command and be in full control of the city by mid 2026.
