The wildfire danger has climbed to VERY HIGH/EXTREME for the Slave Lake Forest Area and EXTREME in the Peace River Forest region. Firefighters urge everyone to use caution as under these dry and windy conditions a fire will ignite easily and spread very quickly.

A fire advisory is in effect for the Peace River Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to drying conditions and high wind.

Under this advisory, existing fire permits are still valid, but please be sure to review your permit conditions prior to burning. New permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, only for essential burning.

No burning is allowed without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire.

Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) can start wildfires.  Please stop often to clean your exhaust and always ensure your OHV is clean and properly maintained.

According to the Alberta Wildfire Facebook page, Alberta Wildfire responded to 77 new wildfires over the May long weekend. At least 36 of them were human-caused.
