The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie forest area is very high. 

A fire advisory is in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to forecasted high temperatures and low relative humidity.

Under this advisory:

  • Current permits are suspended.
  • No new fire permits will be issued until conditions improve.

Prohibited:

  • Any burning, other than a campfire, is prohibited.

Allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires. *
  • Backyard fire pits.
  • Portable propane fire pits.
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues.
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
    *Safe wood campfires - should be within a metal, brick, or rock fire ring.

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 49 wildfires burning nearly 63 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit wildfirestatus.alberta.ca.

 

Wildfire danger for Peace River area is also very high. 

A fire advisory is currently in effect for the Peace River Forest Area. 

Under this advisory:

  • Current permits will remain active;
  • New fire permits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Prohibited:

  • Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.

 Allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

There are currently no wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area.

Since March 1, there have been 27 wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area burning a total of 8.73 hectares.
