Update: Whitecourt RCMP have identified and arrested the male responsible for the pedestrian hit and run which occurred on May 2, 2022.

Claudio Foglia (59) of Whitecourt, Alta., has been charged with the following offences:

·       Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm

·       Assault with a Weapon

·       Assault Causing Bodily Harm

·       Fail to Comply with Undertaking

Claudio was brought before a Justice and has been released on conditions to appear in Whitecourt Provincial Court on May 24, 2022, at 10 a.m.

 

 

On May 2, 2022, at approximately 9 p.m., a rural homeowner discovered an unknown vehicle on their property. The homeowner approached and spoke to the male driver of the vehicle. After a brief conversation, the vehicle accelerated and struck the homeowner, who ended up on the roof. The suspect proceeded to drive from Range Road 123C on Highway 32 into the Town of Whitecourt, and then on Highway 43 to 42 Avenue. The suspect then drove in front of the RCMP Detachment, at which time the victim was thrown off the roof of the vehicle.

The victim was subsequently taken to hospital where they were treated and released.

Police are looking for a 2001-2005 Honda Civic coupe, blue in colour. The vehicle is believed to have the following noticeable characteristics:

·Damage to the front driver side bumper

·A broken or missing driver side window

·Driver side brake light is out

·Missing a front driver side hubcap
