On March 18, 2022, members of the Western Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit located a vehicle driven by a wanted male in the Town of Whitecourt, Alta. A traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle fled from police, driving in a dangerous manner. RCMP officers were able to locate the vehicle a short time later, where it attempted to ram a police vehicle before becoming stuck. The driver was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest led to police locating a loaded firearm.
Kelly William Dwyer (50), of Woodlands County, Alta., was arrested for 7 outstanding warrants and is now facing the following additional charges:
· Flight from police
· Assault with a weapon
· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
· Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
Dwyer was brought before a Justice and he was released on conditions to appear in Whitecourt Provincial Court on Apr. 12, 2022
